Chapter 12
“Damn, we have been
so close!” frustrated Riku started pacing up and down in front of their hidden
camp.
“They were still
under surveillance.” Sami opened the last pack of his favourite nut mix,
offering a handful to his friends. “Are you sure that he will find it and also see
the message?”
“Well, I was wading
through the mud for it and I put it right into the pocket of his pants while
their two guards were too busy watching Elida washing her hair.” Grumpily Riku
sat down and started eating the nuts piece by piece. He was in a bad mood,
tired and hungry. It should have been their chance to finally talk to Samu
after not finding a single possibility for days. After a quick discussion, Riku
had taken matters in his own hands and had wrestled through almost eight feet
high reeds in the swamplands by the river.
He had not expected
the two guards to be that persisting though. Eventually he managed to sneak
close enough to leave a message at least. But what if Samu never found it? What
if he had lost it somewhere along the way? Biting his nails Riku stared down at
two single almonds. The night started falling. It was day four of insecurity,
fear and tension. They were almost out of food by now and demoralized to a
point where each of them felt the urge to simply run away about once every
hour.
But Riku knew one
thing for sure: If Samu got his message he would understand it and they would
all leave this place together.
